In the past few days, probably in the last whole week, I have received a big number of visitors on my blog, because one of my side-projects blew up. Thousands of new visitors landing on my blog.
Normally, this is a good thing for any type of website to see visitors pour in. But for a personal blog, you don’t usually care about big numbers, you care about people who would actually care to read your blog. My analytics shows me I have gotten more than a thousands new visitors, but there are only a handful of people, 15-20%, who would go beyond and read any of my posts. Most visitors cursory browse through the blog and take a peaceful exit.
But this is expected, not everybody who clicks on “made by Advik” link is expected to read my blog. And I feel 15-20% conversion is decent. Now my only question is how many viewers will I retain as regular readers after this side-project of mine dies down.
Because I would want readers on my blog rather than just viewers or visitors. The numbers going up means nothing to me if people aren’t actually reading.
Personal blogging is a very niche thing, not everybody likes it. I like it. But I know a ton of people who wouldn’t care about it. Well, reading is a very niche thing these days anyway.
So only time will tell, how many readers I retain.
