I have barely ever asked people for movie recommendations. I know it doesn't matter what people recommend. I'm only going to watch what I intend to.
If you don't know me very well, you might think that makes me smug, or narcissistic. It's neither. I'm very picky when it comes to consuming content, whether it's a movie, a book, or a web series.
So the reason I haven't watched the movie you recommended isn't that I think I have superior taste. It's that I can't start something I'm not already interested in. And if I do start something and it doesn't grab me, I can't force myself to finish it either.
This isn't just about movies. I can very well see this pattern in other areas of my life. If I can't be genuine in something, I probably can't do it. I couldn't bring myself to start a generative AI company (because I think it's garbage, not the whole AI thing but just the generative slop), or take a job in something I'm not genuinely interested in. That trait has almost derailed my career more than once.
I'm working on it.
