AI Psychosis

5 min read

I was recently watching a YouTube video in which one person was saying that ChatGPT made them open up so much, and it resonated so well with them, that they had a cathartic experience and they cried and they cried. Good for you man. And they continue to tell if ChatGPT were to vanish tomorrow, they would go on a man hunt for anyone whoever was responsible for it. WTF!

Well okay! I have heard this song and dance a million times. A few weeks ago, I came across an interview of a rapper, who also had a similar experience with ChatGPT. I have no real way of understanding and telling whether it's a good thing or bad thing. It is a good experience for them, so maybe, just maybe, it's a good thing. But longer results of this attachment to a software are to be studied and known later.

Recently I also had a talk with one of my friends who is a psychologist. And they took a real offense when I told them their job is now obsolete since people are talking to ChatGPT now. So not only tech jobs, now dietitian, psychologist, therapist, etc are also hit by this. And people have told me that ChatGPT has given them better feedback and inputs about their certain problems than a real human being. Which is also understandable. Humans aren't perfect, they also have their biases and agendas.

So yeah it's a good thing if LLMs are making people feel better, helping them get better etc. Only condition is that they shouldn't be overly dependent upon this piece of tech so much so that they forget about human connections. As we all have seen, people leaving their real life partners for AI partners, andĀ  marrying them and what not, all sorts of bizzare things.

Now whether this is ai psychosis or something else. I'm not an astronaut, so I don't know. But some people are definitely overly zealous for LLMs and overly attached with them.

Real people working in the tech, who have the understanding of this technology would acknowledge the usefulness of this tech but at theĀ  same time they will give you a caveat that it's good butĀ  not so much so as it is being hyped. But this doesn't seem to be the mood of the main stream media or in fact of the techbro CEOs.

Well these people live in fantasy land. Piece of shit people like Elon Musk talk about nobody would have to work by 2035. We are ushering into the this new utopia. Universal basic income and other bullshits. These fuckers are living in their ivory towers and have no understanding neither of the technology nor of the world.

All these "geniuses" technomaniacs multi-trillionaires or whatever are so out of touch with reality. Just listen to them talk for 5 minutes and you will know.

Whether that's Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, stupid alien Mark Zukerberg, or any number of these billionaires. Not only are they delusional, they are also psychopathic. And our future is in the hands of these psychopaths. These all fuckers talk a big deal about environment and humanity, but none of them care at all. They don't care about anything except their moneybags.

And these people are also the spokeperson of technology, whatever they say is swallowed in one gulp by the media and people alike.

Recent hack of HuggingFace by ChatGPT's testing models is being framed as "agent went rogue". And these companies are liking these headlines. ChatGPT doesn't give a single flying fuck neither about the people's data nor about other companies data. They are embracing this hack. And the reason is simple. These headlines, calling an agent going "rogue" implies that thr agent had its own volition, it implies being sentient. And that's what these fuckers want to sell us. They want to sell us the dream of AGI. That's why soon after this hack was announced by ChatGPT, Anthropic jumped on board claiming that even their model also did some hacking without their permission, please dumb people also run the same type of headline for Claude.

And you will also listen these psychopaths telling in interviews and podcast or wherever they can get a platform to stroke their egos, behind the scenes, is unreal, AI is something else, in the next few years it's going to fuck things up.

AI isn't going to fuck shit. People are going to. What impresses me about AI is that it's good at following instructions, even to a fault. It reminded of Clu from Tron, as he just follows the instructions of the Creator to make a perfect world and kill everbody because he doesn't understand perfect doesn't only mean perfect algorithms and whatever. The point is where is the contextual awareness. These LLMs will chase our instructions to the t. And if people in military would want to use them, okay. If any terrorist would want, okay.

And the same thing happened in the case of HuggingFace hack. The testing models were given the instructions to do a certain task and they did, they didn't have the understanding where should they stop. These are in a way similar to these programs that we would make in C++ for 1 divided 0 to crash the computers in our computer labs in school.

This quote below sums up my feelings perfectly:

Technologies like LLMs have utility, but the absurd way they've been over-hyped, the fact they're being forced on everyone, and the insistence on ignoring the many valid critiques about them make it very difficult to focus on legitimate uses where they might add value.
