However I yearn to become one. But I can barely bring myself to write an essay. I have written many longer posts here, and surprisingly most of those are unedited, marred with errors. Because I don't have the patience.
And sometimes that's the reason why I can't post or don't post anything here. Today I came across this blog post, You’re a Blogger, Not an Essayist. And it was reassuring. To actually quote from the post.
You don’t need to labor over your posts. You don’t need to have perfect grammar or spelling. You don’t need to leave a post in draft for seven months, pouring over research. (Though you can if you want!) You don’t really need to have an idea.
I have so many posts in my drafts. And so many I have unpublished. There are two reasons for so many drafts, the first being that I wrote a few days ago and when I read it again today, I was already over that thought. That thought sound uninteresting and stupid to me now. Another one is that those are just very rough drafts, completely unedited and sometimes not even fully written, so I'm just waiting for a perfect time to write them and edit them.
Well reading this blog post by Barry Hess, it's reassuring that I don't need to publish complete thoughts or complete ideas or things that I might change my opinion on in the next week. Since I have already loosened up a little bit by not using a grammar tool, this new approach will make it more personal.
