I hate it when my phone rings. I like to be informed without being annoyed by the ringtone. I have a Nothing phone, and the obnoxious ringtones it has are absurd. I was using the Nokia X tone anyway, but it has started to annoy me as well, or maybe I got bored.

And that's when I started to look for something that wouldn't bleed my ears and also be loud enough to tell me I'm getting a call. After a good amount of trying on various websites, I stumbled upon an open-source project that had exactly what I needed. And obviously being open-source is the cherry on the cake.
This project is called "Sober Ringtones"[1] -- it was exactly the keyword I searched for; otherwise, I doubt I could have ever found it.
There are 4 levels of ringtones -- 101, 102, 103, and 104 -- in increasing order of loudness. Each level comes with a call and a notification sound. Give them all a listen:
| Level | Call | Notification |
|---|---|---|
| 101 โ Stealth Mode | ||
| 102 โ The Low-Key | ||
| 103 โ The Exuberant | ||
| 104 โ The Attention Seeker |
I really wanted to use 101 as my ringtone -- it worked fine on my laptop, but when I set it on my phone, I could barely hear it. So I went up a level and landed on 103, which is loud enough and sober enough.
They also have corresponding notification sounds with each level. I'm not using any of them though -- I use Yahoo Mail's "Precision" sound for all my notifications, and for important people I use "ardilla", which is loud enough without being too annoying.
| Sound | Used for |
|---|---|
| Yahoo Mail โ Precision | |
